Listen to this ADM speak:
To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:
May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.
Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and l deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
This ADM desired to write to brothers and sisters in Christ to glory and fellowship in their common salvation. He was eager to do so, but because of the condition of the Church, and spurred on by the Holy Spirit, He found it necessary to write to us to appeal to us to contend for the faith which has been delivered to us. They did not come in announcing they were false preachers and teachers, they came in subversively, and they continue to do so. These are men that have been designated, that is they are known by God, God knows that they are there, He knows what they are teaching. They did not come in by surprise! But they are not godly, as they proclaim, they instead pervert or twist and contort the grace of God. They call out and claim to be all about grace, but instead of a grace that transforms, it is a grace that gives them and their followers license to sin, which ultimately leads to a denial of Jesus as He is presented in the Bible.
Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.
This is what Jude, the Ancient Discernment Minister, really is concerned about, and he uses three examples of the destruction of those who chose not to believe. First, Jude describes how God in Christ saved the people out of Egypt, and yet destroyed those who in the desert did not believe. Then there were the rebellious angels, Satan included, who in their pride, desired to take over for God. As a result of their pride, they have been condemned until they are finally judged. Lastly, there was Sodom and Gomorrah, who rebelled against God’s Word written on their hearts and pursued perversion of God’s standard of sex, between one man and one woman in the covenant of marriage. God’s judgment rained down on that city after he sent angels as the result of the prayer of Abraham, to warn the cities.
Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion. These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever. It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.
Jude, the ancient discernment minister, calls these deceivers, these false teachers blasphemers. The way that they live blasphemes the name of God whom they claim to serve! They rely on their visions, dreams, and vain philosophies and reject the authority of the Bible. Jude, this ancient discernment minister, wrote a book that could be written today, it is relevant! To all the Rob Bells, Brian McLarens, Doug Pagitts, Phillis Tickles, Creflo Dollars, Shane Claibournes, Tony Compolos, NT Wrights, Will Willemons etc. of this world this book could be written to them as they reject the authority of the Word of God
Rob Bell: In fact, as the Bells describe it, after launching Mars Hill in 1999, they found themselves increasingly uncomfortable with church. “Life in the church had become so small,” Kristen says. “It had worked for me for a long time. Then it stopped working.” The Bells started questioning their assumptions about the Bible itself—”discovering the Bible as a human product,” as Rob puts it, rather than the product of divine fiat. “The Bible is still in the center for us,” Rob says, “but it’s a different kind of center. We want to embrace mystery, rather than conquer it.”
Tony Jones: I now believe that GLBTQ can live lives in accord with biblical Christianity (at least as much as any of us can!) and that their monogamy can and should be sanctioned and blessed by church and state.
Phyllis Tickle: “Today was day one in The Great Emergence conference. To a large extent it was a deeper summary of each part of the book, including some of the keys dates, pivotal moments and events that helped create what we’re experiencing now. [Phyllis Tickle] made a significant point about how this turn is deeply affecting the concept of Sola Scriptura.
One of the things that caught my attention was Tickle’s comment that there are forty-four specific events that underline the move away from Sola Scriptura. I would love to see what those 44 are but that would be like icing on the cake. The final subject in the turn away will be how we address homosexuality in the church. She reiterated that it’s not if Sola Scriptura ends but when…
The central point of Tickle’s book is, “Where is our authority?” And much of the underlining question for those in this conference is the step and subsequent journey out of traditional church expressions and into new ones.”
Doug Pagitt: Next is an exchange between Doug Pagitt and Todd Friel when Friel was with Way of the Master Radio:
Todd: What’s… what’s going to happen to the… How is God going to judge the good Muslim?
Doug: Does it.. God’s going to judge the life and repair and restore and heal the life of everybody in the same way. There’s gonna be no difference between what God…
Jude would have done well in this day and age. This is blasphemy against God just as using His name casually and without reverence is. These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.
But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.
God knew very well that these times would come, He is not surprised. His Call to us: I am in control, so spend time building yourself up in the most Holy faith. This involves studying the Word of God, praying in the Holy Spirit, and thus keeping ourselves in the Word of God. We wait and look for the appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ. But that is not the only thing we are to do as modern Christians:
And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by a snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.
We are called to be merciful to those who doubt. These are different from those who deny the truth that they have been presented with and try to pervert it. We are called to be merciful to those who have not made a profession of faith, or those young in the faith and embrace them and teach them and build them up. The others, like these false teachers or those being sucked in by their teaching, we are called as Christians to snatch them- violently if need be- out of the fire. Still with others we show mercy with fear; that is we are aware of God, who He is, and the judgement they face if they do not repent. We are more concerned for them than for our own feelings and our own comfort.
Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
God is the only one who can keep us from stumbling, He is the only one who can present us blameless. He is the great God, our Savior…He has the authority before time and for all eternity. Let us stand fast in Him.
